Apple Ipod : an Ultimate Music Player

iPods, the new brand portable media player was launched by Apple Inc. in October 2001. iPod was a part of the company strategy to mark its existence in the digital electronic market. There were various complaints against existing audio players and Apple found existing digital music players merely ?big and clunky or small and useless”. Decided to create one Apple set into its production and developed it in less than a year. It was unveiled on October 23, 2001.

It was Vinnie Chieco, a freelance copywriter, who proposed the name iPod. The first iPod demonstration to the public was held in New Jersey in March 1998, and its commercial use began in January 2000. Generally, iPod is associated with a host computer. Each time when an iPod gets connected to its host computer, iTunes gets synchronized to the entire music libraries or music playlists either automatically or manually. The songs are later transferred to the iTunes library.

But always there have been criticisms against iPods. Even lawsuits were filed against it for failing to meet the expectations assured through the advertisements. In 2003, Apple was sued for the shorter life of batteries, which was later settled by either a free battery replacement or a US$50 store credit. There was another criticism regarding the third generation iPod as they had a failed response in audio tests.

There have been allegations of short life span of iPods According to a survey held in 2005; it was found that the iPod had an average 13% failure rate. In late 2005, there were complaints from users that the surface of the first generation iPod is easily scratchable leading to a law suit.

But whatever may be the case, no doubt iPods have a large fanfare in the entertainment market. The claim by Apple “1000 songs in your pocket, ” has never failed to evoke a response among the users.

Tips on Taking the NCSBN (National Council of the State Board of Nursing)

NCSBN (National Council of the State Board of Nursing) does not have established guidelines for graduating students as to when to register. However, registering for the NCLEX examination and licensure during the month of the student’s graduation is common. Note that registering to take the examination and applying for licensure to a state board of nursing are two different processes. Please keep in mind all NCLEX examination registrations will remain effective for a 365-day time period during which a board of nursing may determine the candidate’s eligibility. The time limit begins when the board of nursing receives the candidate’s registration from the test service. Candidates who are not made eligible by their board of nursing within the 365-day time period will forfeit their registrations, including the candidate registration fee. Candidates who wish to take an NCLEX examination will need to re-register, including repaying the examination fee, in order to receive an examination. Students can register for the NCLEX examination and pay the $200 by credit card by calling Pearson VUE at 866. 496. 2539 or register via the Internet. Apply for licensure to the board of nursing in the state or territory where you wish to be licensed. Contact the state board for the requirements. Register for the NCLEX examination with Pearson VUE by mail, telephone or via the internet. The name with which you register must match exactly with the printed name on the identification you present at the test center. If you provide an e-mail address when registering for the NCLEX examination, all subsequent correspondences from Pearson VUE will arrive ONLY BY E-MAIL. If you do not provide an e-mail address, all correspondences from will arrive only through U. S. mail. All NCLEX examination registrations will remain open for a 365-day time period during which a board of nursing may determine your eligibility to take the NCLEX examination. There is no refund of the $200 NCLEX registration fee for any reason. Receive Confirmation of Registration from Pearson VUE. Receive eligibility from the state board of nursing you applied for licensure with. Receive Authorization to Test (ATT) from Pearson VUE. If more than two weeks have passed after you have submitted a registration for the NCLEX examination and received a confirmation from Pearson VUE, and you have not received an ATT, please call Pearson VUE. You must test within the validity dates of your ATT. These validity dates cannot be extended for any reason. The printed name on your identification must match exactly the printed name on your ATT. If the name with which you have registered is different from the name on your identification, you must bring legal name change documentation with you to the test center on the day of your test. The only acceptable forms for legal documentation are: marriage licenses, divorce degrees and/or court action legal name change documents. All documents must be in English and must be the original documents. Schedule an appointment to test by calling Pearson VUE. To change your appointment date: For exams scheduled on: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, call Pearson VUE at least 24 hours in advance of the day and time of your appointment. For exams scheduled on: Saturday, Sunday and Monday, call Pearson VUE no later than Friday at least 1 full business day in advance of the time of your appointment. Present one form of acceptable identification and your ATT on the day of the examination. The only acceptable forms of identification in test centers in the U. S. , American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and Virgin Islands are: U. S. drivers license (not a temporary or learners permit) U. S. state identification Passport For all other test (international) centers, only a passport is acceptable. All identification must be written in English, have a signature in English, be valid (not expired) and include a photograph. Candidates with identification from a country on the U. S. embargoed countries list will not be admitted to test. You will not be admitted to the examination without acceptable identification and your ATT. If you arrive without these materials, you forfeit your test session and must re-register; this includes re-payment of the $200 registration fee. Receive your NCLEX examination results from the board of nursing you applied for licensure with within one month from your examination date. Under the guidance of its membership, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Inc. (NCSBN) develops and administers two national nurse licensure examinations; the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN®) and the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN®). These two examinations are used by all U. S. state and territorial Boards of Nursing to test entry-level nursing competence of candidates for licensure as Registered Nurses and as Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses. The NCLEX examinations are provided exclusively as (CAT) computerized adaptive tests. Several steps must be completed before a nurse can safely enter the profession. These typically include: Graduation from an accredited nursing program Meeting specific requirements of the state board of nursing Passing the National Counsel of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) NCLEX examination for registered nurses (RNs) or licensed practical/vocational nurses (LPN/VNs) About the Test The NCLEX examination is designed to test knowledge, skills and abilities essential to the safe and effective practice of nursing at the entry level. NCLEX results are an important component used by boards of nursing to make decisions about licensure. Only boards of nursing can release NCLEX examination results to candidates. The NCLEX examination is administered in the United States, American Samoa, the District of Columbia, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The NCLEX examination is also administered internationally at Pearson Professional Centers. For a complete list of international test centers go to http://www. pearsonvue. com/nclex or http://www. ncsb. org/. The CAT (computerized adaptive test) type test adapts to your skill level. The first questions that are presented to you are determining your ability level. Once your ability level is determined, the questions are presented in increasing level of difficulty/decreasing difficulty until you have answered enough questions for the computer to determine (with 95% statistical certainty) that you have met the passing standard. The minimum number of questions you will have is 75 (60 questions plus 15 pilot items). You will not be able to distinguish pilot items from “real” items. SO, if you get 265 items, that means the computer has not yet determined that you have met the passing standard at the 95% confidence level. There is no random number of candidates that get the exam with 265- that is a myth. The test is now 6 hours long (up from 5), and you should take your time. Rushing through the questions will most likely lead to failure, because each one you get wrong due to guessing means the next question is easier, and then on and on, until you fail because you are guessing at them all. Take your time to think each question through and choose the best answer. NCLEX is given throughout the US and its territories, so the same format is used and the same question bank is used across the US. You’ve studied hard, finished most of your clinical experience and now you’re ready for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX examination), often referred to as the “State Boards. ” The State Boards exam is the culmination of all the hard work you completed in nursing school. The purpose of the exam is to test and ensure the knowledge, skills and abilities for safe, competent practice in the field of nursing. Who needs to take the NCLEX examination? At the completion of nursing school, all graduates are required to take the NCLEX examination in order to practice as an entry-level licensed RN or LPN in the United States. The registration process begins near the end of your final year in nursing school. At that time you will receive an application to take the NCLEX examination. It must be filled out and returned to the Board of Nursing in the state in which you expect to practice as a nurse. Preparing for the NCLEX examination If you’ve graduated from nursing school, you possess all of the knowledge you need in order to pass the NCLEX examination. It’s easier than you think; all you have to do is review the material you haven’t seen in a while. The trick to passing is starting the review process immediately following your final exams when the information is fresh in your mind. Learn all you can about the test particulars and ways to assure a passing score. Getting test results You will be notified of your NCLEX examination results by mail within 2 to 4 weeks, depending on the distribution procedures for the state in which you applied. If you are successful, expect to receive a sheet of paper notifying you of your passing score. If you did not pass the exam, expect to receive a diagnostic profile that describes overall performance in each section of the exam. Keep in mind that you must wait three months before applying to retake the NCLEX examination. If you want faster results, you can use the NCLEX Quick Results service. Results are available by phone three days after taking the NCLEX examination. Call (900) 328-8378 and follow the prompts. There is a $7. 95 charge. Results are also available online. The $7. 95 charge still applies and you will need your user name, password and a credit card. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing operates the NCLEX examination Quick Results service. This service is currently available in 38 states: Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia-PN, Georgia-RN, Illinois, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas (VN only), Utah, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia (PN only), Wisconsin and Wyoming. If you did not take the test in one of these states, you cannot get your unofficial results using the Quick Results service. If you have questions about this service, call the National Council of State Boards of Nursing at (866) 293-9600. Tips on Test Taking 1) Watch out for the words: except, always and not in all NCLEX questions. (2) Answer each question. You are not penalized for taking an educated guess. (3) Get a good night’s sleep before the NCLEX. (4) Wear layered clothing to the exam. (5) Practice with a watch and bring a watch to the test. (6) Study for each material section of the NCLEX individually. (7) If you extremely weak in one area of content focus on that area. (8) Don’t cram for the NCLEX. Read over a good practice study guide at least one week in advance. (9) Stay away from negative talk about the NCLEX with other students. (10) Know the route to the testing center, (11) Double check that you have the appropriate ID prior to the NCLEX test. (12) Work through several practice tests prior to the exam. Multi-Tasking: Is It Worth It?

You see it at work.   You drop by an employee?s workspace to discuss a current project and she continues to work on the computer while you are having the discussion.   How do you feel as the person continues to ?multi-task??Alternately, you are at home and your spouse is in the kitchen preparing dinner or loading the dishwasher.   You start a conversation with him or her and they continue on with their task at hand while conversing with you.   Did they really understand what you said?  Did they really hear you?So, you do see the behavior.   Do you also find yourself part of this multi-tasking phenomenon?  Multi-tasking, for many people in this ever changing and demanding world, has become a badge of pride.   I can?t tell you how many executives I have worked with who actually believe that multi-tasking increases their productivity. It Doesn?t Increase ProductivityYet, research shows just the opposite. Back in 2001, in the article “Executive Control of Cognitive Processes in Task Switching,” found in the Journal of Experimental Psychology – Human Perception and Performance, Vol 27. No. 4, Joshua S. Rubinstein of the U. S. Federal Aviation Administration in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and David E. Meyer and Jeffrey E. Evans of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan conducted a study which ?revealed that for all types of tasks, subjects lost time when they had to switch from one task to another. Because time costs increased with the complexity of the tasks, it took significantly longer to switch between more complex tasks.   Time costs were also greater when subjects switched to tasks that were relatively unfamiliar. ?In a 2007 New York Times article, Jonathan B. Spira, an analyst at the business research firm Basex, estimated that extreme multitasking costs the U. S. economy $650 billion a year in lost productivity. And a recent (September 2009) article from the Harvard Business School (HBS), http://bit. ly/LLEtx, references another study from Stanford University that supports the 2001 study.   This article also suggests that while single-tasking is probably not totally practical in the 21st century, we should instead consider focusing on the value of each task, rather than focusing on the number of tasks to be completed. Multi-Tasking Effects on Interpersonal RelationshipAnd even if you don?t believe this scientific evidence which shows that multi-tasking does not save you time, think about the other effects it has.   What message are you sending to the people with whom you are multi-tasking?  They probably wonder what is more important than the discussion they are trying to have with you.   They may even think that you are just being rude. I agree with the HBS conclusion that it is difficult to move to single-tasking, BUT only when the multi-tasking does not involve interpersonal communications with another individual. So how can you change your multi-tasking behavior when you are confronted with someone wanting your attention?   Set aside time during each day when you will not multi-task.   At this time focus on only one task or one person.   When someone approaches you for a conversation and you are in a time crunch, let the individual know either, that you only have a specific amount of time to speak due to a work-related deadline, or offer them the opportunity to come back at the specific time you have set aside each day for single-tasking.   This is the time when you can give them your undivided attention.   However, if you do have time to speak with them when they first approach you, then turn away from your computer and put your PDA and cell phone on silent so you aren?t tempted to multi-task. Giving your employees, team members, family, and friends your undivided attention during an important conversation will build stronger relationships by increasing understanding, decreasing stress, and increasing respect.   Managing multi-tasking will also increase your productivity and will model appropriate behavior to other employees. With these benefits in mind, what?s keeping you from starting to manage your multi-tasking behavior?

Paid Surveys – Money for Doing What Comes Naturally

Our human nature has traditionally been characterized by a willingness among individuals to express an opinion on just about any subject known to mankind.   As far back as history can relate people have eagerly rendered their viewpoints on anything and everything.   Traditionally we have been taught that opinions should be taken with a grain of salt because that is all they are worth.  Well, according to the economics of today, opinions are not only valuable, but they are worth money.   Paid surveys have become the rage of the Internet in the first decade of the 21st Century, and people around the world are beginning to join in the frenzy.

There is not one subject in the history of mankind that has been sheltered from public opinion.   The entire sports gambling industry, a twelve billion dollar annual business world wide, is built on the fact that people have diverse opinions about the outcome of sporting events.   There were differences of opinion back in ancient Rome when royalty would bet on the outcome of the chariot races.   Heaven forbid if it was your neck that was riding on the outcome of a wager.   The entire Olympic development emerged because people from different countries had a divergence of opinion as to whose athletes were better.   The fields of wrestling, bow and arrow shooting, chariot and horse racing, and a variety of other competitive events laid the foundation for wagering on these varying opinions.   The differences were ultimately settled by Olympic competition.   These events helped shape peoples? opinions regarding which army was better prepared to fight, which country made the most effective warring equipment and which country constructed the sturdiest chariot.   Today, by virtue of paid surveys, people are being paid for expressing their opinions.

Technological advancements have propelled certain industries to the forefront.   Within those industries, there are products manufactured that sustain these businesses.   Competition in the free market is what drives the price of the products.   Their ultimate success or failure is determined by the amount of sales generated in relation to their competition, and for this reason paid surveys have become an invaluable marketing tool today.

Paid Surveys – Test Market for Products

Paid surveys are the test tracks for marketing firms hired to determine how the public views a particular product or concept, and whether or not the product will be ultimately successful on the open market.   Paid surveys have become an important facet of the world?s economy over the past ten years.   Since the utilization of the Internet as a tool in business today, the use of paid surveys has increased by leaps and bounds.  Paid surveys have been around for decades, however, and many companies have used paid surveys strategies in order to make critical administrative decisions regarding the production and marketing of a particular product.

One company based in New England that employed paid surveys to make administrative determinations regarding their product is the manufacturers of what we will call X Brand Ice Cream.   X Brand Ice Cream was produced by a New England company that wanted to give their ice cream a special quality.   The firm understood that the ice cream industry had some major players in the 70?s, such as Sealtest, Borden, Carvel, Baskin-Robbins and the packaged brands of the big-time supermarkets, such as A&P, Key Food, Shoprite and Pathmark.   The makers of X Brand hired a marketing firm to conduct paid surveys to test their product.   The paid surveys were conducted initially in New England.   Subsequently, there were additional paid surveys in the New York metropolitan area, paid surveys in the Washington DC area, and paid surveys in the Philadelphia-Trenton area.

Since the company?s philosophy was to produce exotic ice cream flavors, the paid surveys would be a great indicator of the preferences of the public. The initial response from the participants of the paid surveys was luke-warm at best.   You must keep in mind that these paid surveys consisted of a taste test of various flavors of ice cream  However, during these paid surveys, neither the name of the company, which was X Brand, nor the name of the flavor of the ice cream was disclosed to those participating in the paid surveys.

The results of the initial paid surveys were curious at first, but they taught marketing firms a crucial lesson in the value of paid surveys.   The reason that the people were not that receptive to the different flavors of ice cream was because the paid surveys revealed that the participants felt that the ice cream lacked a pizzazz about it.   Several months later, the same paid surveys were administered once again to the same corps of paid surveys participants.   This time, the name of the brand of ice cream, X Brand (actually a European sounding name), was revealed to these paid surveys takers.   The paid surveys had a completely different outcome.   The participants of these paid surveys approved overwhelmingly of the different flavors of the ice cream.   The reason given in these paid surveys for the change of opinion is because the paid surveys participants believed they were eating ice cream imported to the United States from Europe, presumably Holland or Switzerland.

The makers of X Brand then utilized paid surveys to determine which particular flavors they should market, and which others they should not.   The cities that they chose were:
Paid Surveys – New York City, New York
Paid Surveys – Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Paid Surveys – Baltimore, Maryland
Paid Surveys – Boston, Massachusetts
Paid Surveys – Portland, Maine
Paid Surveys – Providence, Rhode Island
Paid Surveys – Cape Cod, Massachusetts
Paid Surveys – Montpelier, Vermont
Paid Surveys – Concord, New Hampshire
Paid Surveys – Cape May, New Jersey
Paid Surveys – Old Greenwich, Connecticut
Paid Surveys – Dover, Delaware

The interesting findings in these paid surveys was that the more affluent the area of the paid surveys, the more favorable the results were.   Additionally, the paid surveys yielded the information that the more affluent the area, the more impressed those tested were with the foreign sounding name, and the more willing they were to pay a higher price for the ice cream. The more exotic-sounding the flavor of the ice cream, the more positive was the response from the paid surveys.

These results allowed the manufacturers of the ice cream to concentrate on those areas earmarked in the paid surveys, and X Brand Ice Cream became a staple in the American culture.   The same ice cream that received moderate reviews in the initial paid surveys had received a completely different opinion by the same corps of participants in subsequent paid surveys simply because the brand was given a foreign-sounding name.   The people thought they were purchasing ice cream that was a better value to them than their American counterparts.

Paid surveys are now conducted today through the services of the Internet.   People are in great demand to become participants in these paid surveys.   If you are interested in participating in paid surveys, kindly log on to your computer and consult a search engine, such as Google or Yahoo, for the term ?paid surveys. ?

V740 ExpressCard Features Superior Wireless Broadband Connectivity for Verizon Wireless Customers. .

SAN DIEGO and BASKING RIDGE, NJ ? Novatel Wireless, Inc. , a leading provider of wireless broadband access solutions, and Verizon Wireless, operator of the nation?s most reliable wireless broadband network, today announced the commercial availability of the V740 ExpressCard?. The world?s first ExpressCard to operate on Verizon Wireless? faster wireless broadband network, based on Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A (Rev. A) technology, the V740 offers advanced data speeds and connectivity, lower latency and quick, reliable access to important information.

?Novatel Wireless is committed to providing the latest in broadband wireless technology with innovations in ExpressCard products and reliable connectivity,? said Brad Weinert, acting chief executive officer and chief operating officer for Novatel Wireless. ?Paired with Verizon Wireless? BroadbandAccess service, the V740 ExpressCard offers the latest technology available for EV-DO Rev. A networks. ?

The V740 ExpressCard provides Verizon Wireless customers with access to Verizon Wireless? flagship business data service, BroadbandAccess, which runs faster and more efficiently on Rev. A technology. Customers in Rev. A coverage areas can take advantage of upload speeds that are eight to nine times faster than that of Verizon Wireless? existing wireless broadband network, while interacting with Web-based applications with improved latency for a better customer experience. Independence Blue Cross Embarks on e-Prescribing Pilot

Independence Blue Cross is launching a new initiative to reduce drug prescribing errors and lower pharmacy costs by providing handheld electronic prescribing technology, known as e-Prescribing, to physicians in Southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The Independence Blue Cross (IBC) pilot program for e-Prescribing is in step with the Pennsylvania eHealth Initiative’s ambition to build a statewide electronic patient data network that is tied into a nationwide system — a goal set by President George W. Bush’s 2004 call for the health care community to switch from paper to electronic health records in the next decade. Physicians who participate in the pilot will be provided handheld computers, software and training so they can fill and refill prescriptions electronically. Each doctor will be able to use a PDA to view a patient’s drug history, get information about each patient’s insurer’s list of preferred drugs (formulary), find out about prescription benefits, and read a state-of-the-art drug guide. Doctors will also be able to check for drug interactions and allergies with the PDA. “By moving the prescription process from paper to electronics, we can offer physicians and members a more convenient and efficient way of filling and refilling prescriptions,” said Joseph A. Frick, IBC president and CEO. “But more importantly, e-Prescribing can reduce adverse drug interactions and medication errors due to illegible handwriting. “”We’re pleased to partner with physicians in our e-Prescribing pilot,” Frick added. “This pilot is another project in our ongoing effort to work closely with doctors and hospitals to increase IBC customers’ safety and quality of care and lower their medical costs. “One of the physicians participating in the pilot is Dr. Angelo Ratini, a physician at Radcliffe Family Practice, who estimates he writes 20 to 30 prescriptions a day. “The pilot has made our office more efficient and cut the time it takes to fill and refill a prescription,” said Dr. Ratini. “It’s also a big plus for our patients — they’re happy that we’re doing things electronically and that their prescription order is already at the pharmacy. “The e-Prescribing initiative is expected to benefit patients through: — Improved patient safety — Improved quality of care — Speedy and efficient filling and refilling of prescriptions — Potential cost savings, as physicians are provided with each patient’s insurer’s list of preferred drugs (formulary) and prescription benefits and are able to prescribe less costly but appropriate alternative medication Physicians benefit through: — Reduced telephone and fax volume between pharmacies and physician offices — Less time spent on prescriptions — Information about drugs prescribed by other physicians to prevent adverse drug interactions — At-hand information about formulary and generic alternatives — Access to each patient’s medication history, including drug allergies Pharmacists benefit through: — Prevention of medical errors resulting from misinterpreting physician handwriting — Decrease in number of rejected prescriptions due to illegibility and drug interactions — Less administrative work processing paper — Improved efficiency by decreasing calls into and out of the pharmacyIBC has selected two vendors for its 12-month e-Prescribing pilot program — ZixCorp and AllScripts. Approximately 500 physicians will participate in the pilot, and IBC has invested over $1 million to deploy the e-Prescribing tools (e. g. computers and software) to these physicians. If successful, IBC will look to expand the pilot further. The e-Prescribing pilot fits with the work of the Pennsylvania eHealth Initiative, a collaboration of over 40 health care-related organizations founded in 2005. The eHealth Initiative is working to create an electronic patient data network that will ultimately tie into a nationwide system, allowing patients and doctors to securely access medical records throughout the country. The e-Prescribing pilot is part of IBC’s ongoing strategy to partner with health care providers to improve quality, safety and cost in patient care. Most recently, IBC partnered with the Delaware Valley Healthcare Council to launch the Partnership for Patient Care, a three-year initiative to enhance patient care at the region’s hospitals. IBC will contribute up to $1. 25 million to support the innovative program, which will initially focus on reducing hospital-acquired infections. In another program to improve patient care, IBC set up the Nurse Scholars Program two years ago to address the serious shortage of nurses in our region. IBC partnered with the area nursing schools and the Pennsylvania Higher Education Foundation and has invested roughly $3 million in more than 1,000 scholarships for nurses and nursing educators to increase the area’s supply of nurses. To provide health care for the uninsured, IBC began the Charitable Medical Grant Program last year and has provided over $4. 7 million in grants to 25 private clinics to provide uninsured adults and children access to regular medical care to avoid unnecessarily burdening emergency rooms. AllScripts Healthcare Solutions (AllScripts), headquartered in Illinois, is a provider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions that physicians use to improve healthcare. Zix Corporation (ZixCorp) provides easy-to-use-and-deploy e-communication services that protect, manage, and deliver sensitive information. Its eHealth services improve patient care, reduce costs and improve efficiency through e-Prescribing and e-lab solutions. The company is based in Texas. Independence Blue Cross is the leading health insurer in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Nationwide, IBC and its affiliates provide coverage to nearly 3. 4 million people. For more than 65 years, Independence Blue Cross has offered quality health care products and services tailored to meet the changing needs of members, employers, groups and providers. Independence Blue Cross recently received the highest ratings from the National Committee for Quality Assurance for its HMO and PPO health care plans. In addition, earlier this year, Independence Blue Cross’s Personal Choice was rated the No. 1 PPO in the nation and its Keystone HMO was ranked the No. 1 HMO in the region by health care consumers in a leading independent consumer magazine.

Small Mail Order Business – Helpful Tips

Starting a small mail order business can be very profitable if done carefully from the beginning. I’ll share with you some of my helpful tips to get you moving in your own small mail order business.

Your small mail order business always starts out with a good product or service that you want to sell. Your product can be a book that you have created a how to DVD or another type of product. If you don’t have a product or service, sit down at your computer and start searching the internet for mail order products. There are many wholesale firms that would be willing to sell their products to you at wholesale prices. To get your creative mind working, you can sit down with a pen and paper and write down all your ideas for making a how to manual. These are best kind of products to sell in mail order. Think of what you are passionate about and write a 20-30 page booklet. Many mail order companies create their own how to manual from scratch and can make thousands of dollars. For more product information you can write to: Mail Order Associates, Inc. , 120 Chestnut Ridge Rd. , Montvale, NJ 07645.

After you have found your product or made your booklet, you will need to decide on a price for the product or manual. Most booklets can sell between $12 up to $39, the more pages you write and the more information you give to your readers. The cost to print your manual will be less than a dollar to make so your mark up is excellent. Create a simple 2-3 page sales letter with a great headline to capture your reader. You can print it with nice bright copy paper. Have someone critique your sales letter for punctuation and spelling corrections before you send it out.

If you are focusing on selling your how to manual through your small mail order business, there are several ways to sell your manual. I would recommend when you are first starting out to locate a good local publication that accepts paid classified ads. You could place a small classified ad about your manual. When someone responds to your ad, you can send them your sales letter. Now you have your first client with their name and address. You can continue to send them your updates or new products. Take some time and create a monthly newsletter to touch base with your new clients. Stay focused and continue to make new contacts and you will be well on your way to having a successful small mail order business of your own.
